        Elsevier ATLAS Award Advisory Board

An innovative research of forest therapy:

Connecting with nature benefit to health and improve creativity performance among middle-aged and elderly adults

Dr. Chia-Pin (Simon) Yu, an Associate Professor of School of Forestry and Conservation, Nation Taiwan University and his colleagues have dedicated to forest therapy study in exploring the effects of nature experience on human health and well-being. The latest research “Beyond Restorative Benefits: Evaluating the Effect of Forest Therapy on Creativity” examined the health benefits of forest therapy experience among middle-aged and elderly adults. The results found a three-day (two-night) forest therapy program contributes to blood pressure adjustment, positive emotion enhancement, and negative emotion mitigation. Furthermore, an increase of 27.74% in creativity performance was observed that has a significant correlation with negative emotion restorativeness.

This study has been published in an outstanding journal, Urban Forestry & Urban Greening, in the forestry category, moreover the research has been selected for the Elsevier ATLAS Award (https://www.elsevier.com/connect/atlas/nominations/nominations-2020) SDG 15 (Life on Land). This award selects researches that have a significant impact on the society from more than 4,000 articles every month. “Being selected is a recognition” said Dr. Yu, and he attributed this glory to team’s efforts and the support by Ministry of Science and Technology and College of Bioresources and Agriculture, National Taiwan University.
