璀璨又閃亮的禮物-臺大實驗林小行星528489 Ntuef
實驗林74週年處慶收到國立中央大學致贈的編號528489號小行星，實驗林與中央大學之情誼始於「鹿林天文臺」。1990年起歷經3年的視寧度(seeing)、氣候、夜天光背景等條件調查後，確定鹿林前山為優良的天文台址，至1997年中央大學獲得太空計畫室（前「國家太空中心」）補助，以公共設施用地向實驗林借用31林班林地興建臺灣第一座搭載超輕型望遠鏡（SLT76）的天文台，於1999年完工的鹿林天文台亦為國內唯一的研究型天文台，2002年鹿林天文台建置臺灣首座口徑突破1公尺的鹿林一米望遠鏡（LOT）。從2006年啟動的「鹿林巡天計畫」，不但於2007年發現了臺灣天文史上第1顆彗星- 鹿林彗星C/2007 N3 (Lulin)，更發現了多顆小行星，使臺灣成為亞洲發現小行星最活躍的地方，近年國內數個研究單位亦於鹿林天文台架設多項大型儀器，使海拔2,862公尺高，消光較小，大氣寧靜度好的鹿林天文台成為臺灣最重要的光學天文基地。
中央大學天文所為感謝實驗林公誼，向國際天文學聯合會(IAU)申請編號528489號小行星命名為臺大實驗林「Ntuef」，期許實驗林致力森林永續與保育的精神同小行星一般高掛天空。
臺大實驗林小行星目前正位於獅子座中，尺寸大小約1公里，運行軌道在火星與木星間，繞行太陽之週期為3.37年，近日點距離為2.81億公里，遠日點為3.93億公里。

A bright and sparkling gift- 528489 Ntuef
Experimental Forest was presented with asteroid No. 528489 as a donation from National Central University during its 74th-anniversary celebration.The connection between Experimental Forest and National Central University began with the "Lulin Observatory. In 1990s, after three years of investigation into factors such as seeing, climate, and night sky brightness, the Lulin Front Mountain was identified as an excellent location for an observatory.
In 1997, National Central University received funding from the Space Program Office (formerly known as the "National Space Center") to construct Taiwan's first astronomical observatory with a lightweight telescope (SLT76) on the Experimental Forest. The Lulin Observatory, completed in 1999, is also the only research-oriented astronomical observatory in Taiwan. In 2002, the Lulin Observatory established Taiwan's first one-meter telescope (LOT).
The "Lulin Sky Survey," initiated in 2006, not only discovered the first comet in the history of Taiwanese astronomy in 2007 - Comet Lulin C/2007 N3 (Lulin), but also identified several asteroids. This achievement has made Taiwan the most active region in Asia for asteroid discoveries. In recent years, several research organizations in Taiwan have also established various precious instruments at the Lulin Observatory. With its high altitude of 2,862 meters, low atmospheric extinction, and excellent atmospheric tranquility, the Lulin Observatory has become Taiwan's most important optical astronomical facility.
In gratitude to the Experimental Forest, the Institute of Astronomy at National Central University has applied to the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to name asteroid number 528489 as "Ntuef" after National Taiwan University Experimental Forest. This naming symbolizes the commitment of the Experimental Forest to the spirit of sustainable forest management and conservation, with the aspiration that it will shine brightly in the sky, just like the asteroid itself.
The Ntuef asteroid is currently located in the constellation of Leo. It has an estimated size of approximately 1 kilometer and orbits between Mars and Jupiter. Its orbital period around the Sun is 3.37 years, with a perihelion distance of 281 million kilometers and an aphelion distance of 393 million kilometers.
