“Our Unexpected Arthropod Housemates” Exhibition at National Taiwan University

“Our Unexpected Arthropod Housemates(我家蟲住民-居家蟲蟲特展)” is an exhibition hosted by the Taiwan Entomological Society in tandem with the National Museum of Natural Science, the National Taiwan University College of Bioresources and Agriculture, the National Taiwan University Agricultural Exhibition Hall, the National Taiwan University Department of Entomology, and the Taiwan Insect Museum. The exhibition will be launched on May 8 on the second floor of the National Taiwan University Agricultural Exhibition Hall with exhibits based around the “Our Unexpected Arthropod Housemates” exhibition shown at the National Museum of Natural Science in 2018, bringing the concept and feeling of home in to exhibition hall to present common insects and arthropods in various spaces.

Cute drawings of anthropomorphic arthropods build a relaxed atmosphere for exploring common insects seen in the home, which help the general public to overcome their fear while learning and understanding more about insects. This exhibition integrated results of studies conducted by the National Taiwan University Department of Entomology, allowing members of the public to see with their own eyes the more than 50 cockroach specimens collected by entomologists during the Japanese colonial period which have been preserved for nearly a century. Other exhibits include theses with historical or educational significance relating to arthropods within the home. Members of the public can also seek out traces of live arthropods within the exhibition hall and learn about these household roommates through interesting insect facts and interactive games.

“Our Unexpected Arthropod Housemates” is a free exhibition which will run until December 31. Group reservations from primary and secondary schools welcome.
