Tree Climber Specialists Working on Campus Trees Sponsored by an Alumni of Dept. Horticulture

The courtyard between Building No. 4 and Building No. 5 had been lack of tree pruning for decades. Heavy duty cranes were not able to access to the courtyard due to its narrow opening.

These trees, without proper management, were not only risks to public safety, but also blocked the sunlight. Limited sunlight had a negative impact on plant growth, seriously affecting garden management. NTU deeply appreciates Mr. Huang, Yun-Chu, an Alumni of Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, and Capital Cultural Educational Foundation for their donation of 150 thousand NTD. This donation was designated to hiring professional tree climbers for tree pruning.

Trees in this courtyard had not been trained or pruned for several decades. Several cajuput trees were strangled by banyan trees, their tree vigor ended up falling sharply. These entangled trees were not only a threat to historical Building No. 4 and Building No. 5, but also posed a risk to people on campus.

Mr. Huang and the Alumni Association of Department of Horticulture have donated a million dollars few years ago for the improvement of this courtyard. The transformation was slow for years because of sunlight masked by these less than well cared trees. To solve the shading problem, Mr. Huang helped the department to work on tree management using tree climber with his generosity. He is one of our great examples of showing his passion to the NTU and his love to the environment. His contribution has significantly improved the beauty of campus and public safety.
