The Global Trend of Net-zero Emission in the Agricultural Sector

NTU’s College of Bioresource and Agriculture joins hands with YunTech’s College of Management to lead the emission reduction in the agriculture sector

In pursuit of Taiwan’s net zero agriculture in 2040,  NTU’s College of Bioresource and Agriculture and YunTech’s College of Management signed the “Agriculture Sustainable Developments Strategic Alliance MOU” on November 4th. In the future, both sides will work collaboratively on agricultural ESG, carbon footprints, and COA’s four main themes, which include reducing emissions, increasing carbon sink, enhancing circular economy, and developing green energy, so as to lead the industrial change to a net zero Taiwan.

The signing ceremony was completed by YunTech’s College of Management fellows, led by the Vice President Chwen-Tzeng Su, the Dean for research and development Hun-Jen Lee, and the Dean of College of Management Jao-Hong Cheng, and NTU’s College of Bioresource and Agriculture fellows, led by the Dean of College of Bioresource and Agriculture Huu-Sheng Lur. Under the witness of both parties, the MOU was signed in a joint declaration that they would promote the aforementioned four themes, and provide trustworthy assistance to the industry through the method introduction, certification, and follow-up improvement plans.

The Vice President of YunTech, Chwen-Tzeng Su, pointed out that YunTech has strived for “using educational and R&D resources to solve local, industrial, social and global
economic, social and environmental problems”, and has actively contributed to regional and global sustainability. Recently, the College of Management has completed the strategic alliance with SGS and CSD; it has also guided teachers and students to obtain relevant certificates: from ISO 14064-1 Greenhouse Gas Inventory, ISO 14067 Carbon Footprint of Products last year, to the ISO 14064-2 Greenhouse Gas Project Level Reduction as lead auditor this year. Currently, the college also joins industry-academia cooperation projects, providing one-stop services for several listed companies to transit to a low-carbon mode.

YunTech, located in a major agricultural county Yunlin, in face of the global trend of emission reduction, works with NTU College of Bioresource and Agriculture to strengthen professional agricultural technologies and to provide more complete agricultural services.

The Dean of NTU’s College of Bioresource and Agriculture, Huu-Sheng Lur, indicated that the increasingly frequent extreme weather and climate disasters have urged the globe to reach net zero by 2050, thus our COA has also declared the goal of net zero by 2040. This collaboration with YunTech’s College of Management will focus on the four main themes proposed by the COA, making better use of the professional knowledge of the College of Bioresource and Agriculture to provide extended and deepened cooperation in helping local agricultural developments in Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan area.

After the signing ceremony, a vibrant atmosphere still lasted among the teachers and students of the two colleges, posing a perfect end to the event.
